In quietness and confidence — April 2018
Very happy to be back in Kinshasa, and to renew personal contact with all our friends and partners. We were welcomed at the airport by torrential rain, which delayed the delivery of our luggage, but which we took as a sign of God’s blessings upon our return, as this rainy season had seen too little rain.
1 Leadership Retreat
We jumped right into our first two days of retreat with our Bible teachers, covering the theme of “The New Alliance in Jesus” and “Resting in the Lord”. The recent developments on the world scene over Israel have raised some wild interpretations in Congo, which our Bible teachers have been confronted with. Studying what the Bible says about Israel is very helpful to them in answering questions from their students.
Life in Kinshasa can get hectic to say the least, living quarters are often overcrowded and noisy, which makes it difficult to find a quiet place to study the Word and pray. The daily challenges and difficulties people here must face are extreme. The Congolese people have a wonderful gift of singing and expressing their faith and praise with loud singing and clapping, but to effectively have the spiritual stamina to minister to others, our leaders (just like the rest of us) need to spend time “in quietness and confidence”, just communing with the Lord’s spirit and letting Him fill them with His peace. We dedicated our afternoon sessions to learning to “cast our burden on the Lord”, resting in His arms and meditating on His greatness and power. (Isaiah 30:15 and Psalm 55:22)
2 Clean Water Project
The solar pump shipped from France arrived safely in Kinshasa, but getting it out of customs proved a lot more tricky than we had been told when we ordered it, as we were faced with new regulations and restrictions the pump company knew nothing about. To make a long story short, in answer to your prayers and thanks to Theo’s faith and a series of little miracles, he was able to retrieve the pump without having to pay the additional charges we had been threatened with.
3 Construction
Some of the finishing touches on the incinerator and the roofing of the medical center.
4 Maternity
5 Distribution of food and cleaning products
Prayer opens doors to let in God and let out self, to let in love and let out hate, to let in faith and let out fear.
