Happy New Year 2022
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE YEAR 2021
This year, not unlike 2020, also suffered from the COVID pandemic, so the children missed about 5 months of schooling. They did their best to catch up and take their yearly exams when the school reopened, so they could resume school in October. The economy also suffered greatly because of the pandemic, which makes us even more thankful for the support we have continued to receive from you, our dear friends, in spite of the difficulties you yourselves have faced. We can proudly say that, thanks to you and to our dedicated Congolese partners, our project has continued to blossom, and we were again able to meet our major goals for sustainable development, matching those of the UN (within the World Family Organization) such as minimizing poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, affordable clean energy, clean water, and sanitation.
Goal #1 & #7: Zero Hunger and No Poverty
- Distribution of staple foods (milk, rice, sugar, maïze flour, meat, canned fish, spaghettis, tomato puree, salt), household, sanitary products and occasional toys and clothing to underprivileged children and mothers.
- Distribution of snacks to all the students
- Hot meals served to the orphaned children
- Distribution of baby clothes, milk, basic food items and diapers to needy mothers who deliver their babies in our clinic.
- Farming (growing fruit trees and vegetables, raising chicken, breeding fish)
Goal #2 & 3: Quality Education & Gender Equality
- Schooling of 318 students, 213 in Primary school and 105 in Middle School, including 145 boys and 173 girls.
- Opening of a Kindergarden class in October.
- 95% of our students passed to the next grade, which is remarkable considering they had very little time to catch up on the days of school they had missed because of COVID.
- Donation of two swing sets for the Kindergarden.
- Distribution of notebooks, pens, schoolbooks and library books.
- Distribution of sanitary products to teenage girls, which enabled them not to miss a day of school and to excel in their exams as 96% of the girls passed!
- Scholarship for Ana who is starting her 1st year of doctorate in medical school.
Goal #4: Good Health and Well-Being
- Medical care of orphaned and underprivileged children in Kikimi.
- Pre and post-natal care, including the delivery of 51 healthy babies.
Sustainable Development: Goals #5 & 6–Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable & Clean Energy, and maintenance
- The solar bore well has continued to be a blessing to the population of Kikimi, minimizing greatly water-borne diseases, till a lighting stroke the controller which is being replaced.
- Installation of a lightning rod to protect the solar pump.
- Reinforced sanitation during and after the COVID crisis.
- Upcoming maintenance of the bore well.
- Maintenance of the ambulance.
Youth and Children Ministry
- Monthly fellowships and seminars for the youth.
- Seminars for youth leaders and Bible teachers.
- Road trip to Tchikapa to hold a youth seminar.
- Flourishing children ministry using the Character-Building STEPS Program in various parts of Kinshasa.
- Excursion to a playground and to the zoo of Kinshasa for several groups of children.
- Special Christmas programs for underprivileged children in several parts of Kinshasa.
