Espoir Congo’s micro-enterprise program enables disadvantaged youth and women to start up small businesses and generate income to support their families or studies. The program includes training in business management and ongoing mentoring. This program was launched in 2012. (Watch Espoir Congo Presentation Video–Part 2)
Examples of micro-enterprises funded by this program include establishing a cyber-café, selling SIM cards and air time for a cellphone company, and retail or wholesale marketing of various household or fashion products.
Another micro-enterprise is recharging cell-phone batteries via generator, in areas that have no electricity.
Espoir Congo created a basic business management course for prospective entrepreneurs and provides ongoing counseling, monitoring and assistance to help them succeed. All entrepreneurs are trained in basic business management, bookkeeping, work ethics and moral values (such as the importance of honesty).
