June 2019
Dear friends,
June has been a very exciting month, as you will see below. Thank you for all you do to make it all possible!
1 Girls in full attendance for 6th graders Final Exam
The final exam for 6th graders in Congo holds much importance. Students who succeed receive a diploma that testifies they have completed their primary education. As in the last 3 previous years, our school served as an examination center for three other schools. Thanks to We Lift Up (https://weliftup.org/project/girls-education-in-the-congo/), all of our girls were able to take their final exam. We pray they will all succeed and will tell you the results next month.
2 Sports and Fun
The Africa Cup of Nations is taking place at the moment, which is motivating all our kids to practice. In Kikimi, boys and girls play soccer together, even though the country does not yet have a feminine soccer team.
3 Maternity
The mothers who deliver their babies in our maternity are super thankful for the baby clothes and sanitary products they receive. Two more babies were born this month, both healthy.
4 Maintenance and improvements
We encourage the children to help keep their school premises clean, not only picking up papers and leaves, but also cleaning the windows. Both boys and girls participate. It’s more fun to do it together!
This month we purchased fencing to better securitize the water tower and the fountains, where villagers come daily to fetch drinking water. Their small contributions (6.5 cents per 25 liters) help to cover the monthly cleaning of the cisterns and other maintenance of the well.
5 Youth Ministry
Gino has continued to hold seminars every Sunday for our Youth leaders and Bible teachers. It’s been a very fruitful time of in-depth Bible study, theology, as well as praise and fellowship. We will share with you some reactions next month.
Gino was able to visit Olivier and his beautiful family, to whom the Lord has given a much better apartment, where he is able to hold Bible studies. They had prepared a nice lunch for him. Olivier is one of our first members, who has faithfully taught Bible classes, trained disciples and led witnessing outreach for almost 10 years.
6 Thank You
Thank you so much to each of you for your contributions that keep our mission going, and especially for your prayers. Hats off to our local friends who faithfully continue to help with food and household items for the welfare of the children, in spite of the many difficulties they are themselves facing: Mr. Mahesh, SOKIN, MARSAVCO, CONGO FOODS and MAFRICOM. Thank you also to Marie-Thérèse, Yvan & Renate who faithfully help support the education of some of the students. A big hand to Steven Leuthold Family Foundation, We Lift Up, and FCF, and to all those who preferred to remain anonymous. We couldn’t do it without you!
Purpose of Prayer
“The purpose of prayer is not to convince some heartless god to have compassion on us and change the events of our lives. The purpose of prayer is to open and change our hearts so that we might see more clearly the direction we must go.
Seeing the direction, prayer gives us the courage and strength to do what we can. We pray in order not to bend God’s will to our own, but to place our will in the hands of God.”
