1 Education
In the beginning of the month, we were able to re-open one class for our 6th graders, so they could prepare for their state exam and not lose their whole year. For these children, it is vital to obtain a Primary School diploma as the precarity of life in the country may not allow them to complete high school, many being forced to work at a young age to help support their family.
Olivier is taking advantage of his kids staying home because of the corona virus to pour into them character building and moral values, using the wonderful STEPS program. This program is full of educational activities and worksheets which the kids really enjoy.
2 Goods Distribution
To commemorate the anniversary of their loved ones who have passed on, in their honor, dear Neema and Suresh organized a large donation of food bags and other items for 215 children (spaghetti, sardines, biscuits, mosquito repellent, medical soap); including portable hand-washing facilities for the school and hydroalcoholic gel. The kids were so excited that they forgot to keep social distances.
3 Maternity
Every month, new babies are born. Theo says jockingly: “Because of this lockdown, all the women are getting pregnant!” Florence is holding regular pre and post natal classes. The mommies are very thankful for the donation of baby clothes they receive, including basic food and sanitary products.
4 Construction of Staff Housing
The security gates were finally installed!
5 Corona Situation
We would greatly appreciate your prayers for this pandemic to end. The lockdown in the center of Kinshasa has been prolonged, worsening the economic repercussions on the population who has lost their jobs without any compensation. The water and electrical companies, who had not billed the population for the months of March and April, have now sent back bills while people have lost their income. The sad result is increase in theft and crime, which affects even the poorest who have no means to protect themselves. People are saying they would rather take the risk of dying of the virus than to see their children starve.
6 Thank You
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to you for continuing to donate in the midst of this crisis. Thanks to your aid, the children we care for have had enough to eat and have received any needed medical care. May God richly bless you!
