Translating the “STEPS” Program–March 2015
1 Education
1.1 Preparing for Final Exam:
Our class of 6th graders is actively preparing for their final exam, which holds value here in Congo, and all the students registered this month at the Educational District.
1.2 Library:
We brought back some beautiful books from France for the little library we are setting up in Kikimi for the children in Natalie’s memory, some purchased at Livr’Afrique, some donated, and some from our childhood!
1.3 The STEPS Program:
A big thank you to those of you who are helping to translate the STEPS. Here’s the very first booklet almost ready for use (just need to fix a few little glitches). We’re so excited about it and the wonderful effect it is going to have on the children here and the future of Africa!
2 Food Distribution
Here are some pics of the kids enjoying the donated food.
3 Medical Care and Equipment
The village is so happy with our little medical center. Everyone comes for medical care, but the biggest blessing is to be able to keep a close eye on all the school kids and nip things in the bud.
Last month, several of them came down with bronchitis so we brought back from France needed ORL equipment that is not available locally, along with other needed items.
And we finally were able to get a pic of the bedside tables that were built last month.
4 Village Development
4.1 Drinking Water:
The plumber finished installing the water pump and triple filter which now supplies the school with drinking water.
4.2 Construction:
The building of the shower stalls is under way.
Here’s our mason mixing cement to make the needed bricks.
All building materials have to be brought by “pousse-pousse” all the way to Kikimi because of the condition of the roads. Challenges never cease!
Do not think that love in order to be genuine has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired. Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies. — Mother Teresa
