Excursion to GG Mart — February 2024
1 School Excursion
A big thank you to GG Mart for organizing an excursion for 2 classes: our 6th and 12th graders! We rented a bus to transport the children from our village school to the city of Kinshasa to the beautiful new GG Mart supermarket near Kitambo. Mrs. Neema herself explained to the children how the supermarket is organized which was very interesting and educational for these children who live in a rural area where the only “shops” are makeshift stalls. The children were all served an ice-cream snack and ended their visit with a delicious hot meal served in the restaurant part of the supermarket. What a special day that was! Thank you, Mrs. Neema!
2 Education
In order to motivate the students to excel by doing their best, Mrs. Neema had the inspiration of rewarding each month the 2 top students of each class, or a total of 24 for both the primary and secondary schools. You can just see their happy faces as they receive their shiner prizes.
Our high school students can choose a professional skill as a major. Here those who chose pedagogy are about to start their hands-on training by assisting the primary school teachers.
Here is an interesting method suggested by USAID to teach children how to write their numbers in the sand, in order to save pen and paper.
3 Health
This month our clinic is receiving a medical student to do his work experience internship.
4 Agriculture
Fabrice’s agricultural project is progressing well. Besides regular vegetables, he is specializing in organic medicinal herbs like bulutuku, which has multiple benefits. Rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and iron, it helps alleviate flu symptoms, fevers, cough, malaria, toothaches, high blood pressure, liver disease and menstrual cramps. A miracle herb!
In Kikimi, Theo continues to develop as much agriculture as possible to help bring some income to support the running of the school. Here he is about to plant coconut trees.
5 Youth and Children’s Ministries
On the first Sunday of the month, Olivier organized a get together with his group of youth leaders to discuss a motivational article and exchange tips and ideas on how to best motivate young people.
Fabrice, Jacques and Aristote continue faithfully to impart positive values to young children through fun and character building activities. Thanks to a donation, Fabrice was able to purchase chairs for the group of children he teaches.
And if you wonder how the new baby is doing, well, Cedric is enjoying every minute he can with his adorable daughter. Her name is Munia, meaning light.
