Christmas in Kinshasa
Many children in Kinshasa are too poor to celebrate Christmas. So our volunteers organized activities and a hot meal in different parts of the city to make this day extra special for them. Here are some of their accounts:
From Jacques:
Every year we celebrate Christmas together with the children. We commemorate the birth of our Lord. For us, this feast is of great importance because it expresses the true love of God for humanity.
It turned out to be a beautiful day with the children, we could read the joy on their faces. At the end of the year, they always give glory to God for His protection during the whole year and also for all His provisions for each of us.
2022 was a year of many challenges for our class that follows the STEPS Program. 3 of our children lost their father, making it difficult for them to survive in a poverty-stricken country. In spite of this, we have been miraculously supported by our Lord through our friends.
Thanks to the different donations we received, we were able to help the children to meet some of their basic needs, such as sponsoring the fees for one of the orphaned girls so she could take her final primary exam. We also assisted some of the hospitalized children to buy the medicine they needed and other things…
This year 100 children participated in our Christmas program. We conducted the following activities:
- SINGING
Together with the children we celebrated this wonderful and happy day with Christmas carols, both from the STEPS DVD and also other songs in LINGALA.
- SKITS
The children presented short plays illustrating the birth of baby Jesus and the joy of Christmas among many others.
- GAMES
We organized games to show the joy of Christmas that resides in the hearts of all the children, as a way to give glory to the Lord, because He (Jesus) loves to share our joys.
- COLORING
We printed pictures for the children to color and bought colored pencils for all of them.
- MEAL
At the end of the ceremony, we shared a meal together with the children, made possible thanks to the generous donors around the world who sponsored this program which aims to teach them the ways of the Lord to these needy children.
We say a big thank you to the Lord for his unfailing love and we thank all those who contributed to the success of this activity, which allowed some homeless children to celebrate the joy of Christmas.
We pray that God will grant these children a better future, we are sure of it because Christ is our hope of victory.
From Fabrice: It was a great honor to celebrate Christmas with the children. We did coloring, reciting and dancing and also served a meal to the children thanks to the donations you gave us. We thank you with all our hearts.
A picture being worth a thousand words, here are some photos taken on that day.
