End of Lockdown! — August 2020
1 Education
An inspector came to check if our school was properly equipped to respect the guidelines of social distancing such as hand-washing, masks for the children and teachers, and use of a thermo flash thermometer, which it is.
August 10 was set as the end of the lockdown and for children to come back to school and prepare for the year end exams. Initially, the date for the TENAFEP (end of primary education final exam) was set for August 16, which left the children very little time to catch up on 3 months missed of schooling, but thankfully it was postponed till the end of the month.
2 Goods Distribution
3 Health Care
4 Agriculture
The ponds are ready to receive fish for breeding.
Theo and Florence have also started raising chickens for eggs and meat during this time when supplies and finances had become scare because of the crisis and they are training 10 families to do the same. In partnership with an agronomist, they are planting fruit trees and vegetables which are helping to feed the villagers and bring in needed income.
5 Micro-enterprise
To help move young people off the streets, Florence, using her own successful micro-enterprise, has started training them to sell soft drinks. A whole new life is opening them for them as they are now making an honest living.
6 Reaching out to children during the covid
In order to occupy the children in his neighborhood during this time of restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic when schools have been closed since March, Aristotle has been organizing educational and fun activities using the STEPS Program to teach the children the basics of the Christian faith. He started with twenty children but now more and more are flocking to take part in this training.
Twelve-year-old Dorcas gave us this testimony about the effectiveness of prayer:
“Last night I had trouble sleeping because my parents were arguing violently in the living room. So I prayed and asked Jesus to restore peace and harmony in our house and for my parents to get along. And Jesus answered my prayer favorably, because the next morning I was delighted to see them talking and laughing together again.”
***
In conclusion, we will quote what Theo said: “In spite of the suffering, the confinement of COVID-19 has led us to reflections that have greatly blessed us. Many people who were very busy before had time to rest and exchange with family members. The confinement helped people to meditate and plan for the future, so we can still acknowledge this difficult time and see the positive side that it has brought. God knows how to turn any situation for the better.”
