1 Education
Because of all the disturbance caused by the COVID when the children couldn’t attend school, this school year will only end on September 8th and the new school year will start on October 4th. The final exam for Primary School students will take place on the 5th and 6th of August. Espoir Congo sponsored the enrollment of all our students who could not afford the required fee. We wish them all good success.
Beautiful initiative from our school director Theo: 8th grade students who wish to become teachers get to assist the grade school teachers as part of their training.
2 Health/Maternity
Pre and postnatal care took place this month, new babies were born, and malaria patients were treated till recovery.
3 Distribution of goods/Services to the Poor
We are so thankful for the donations of food received this month from Jean-Emile and Mr. Mahesh, which make it possible to feed the children.
The fruit garden planted by Theo is yielding beautiful pineapples for the children to enjoy.
4 Children Program
Fabrice has now created a local NGO to legalize the STEPS Program and is training Sunday School monitors in several parts of Kinshasa and its surroundings, including some villages.
Jacques, who is still working in the East, shares the following: “These little children came to see me where I am staying at the priest’s house, thinking I was a new priest of the village. We became friends and I found out that even though they go to church no one told them about Jesus as the savior who came to save them. They were so happy to hear the story of the cross and know that Jesus loves them”.
Cedric, with a friend’s help, has started a small orphanage for street children who were born on the street and have no family. They are renting a house where 5 of them now live in safety. His friend supplies all the meals and Cedric teaches them with the help of the STEPS Program. He is starting by teaching them about love, and how to help them overcome anger and disputes, which have been their way of survival up till now.
