Back to school for the exams — September 2020
1 Education
After only a couple of weeks to prepare, the children took their year-end examinations. If you remember, every single year all our children passed with flying colors their final exam that enabled them to start middle-school. This year, the children did their very best, but were unsure of what the results would be. Beyond expectation, 15 of them passed and only 5 will need to repeat their school year because of the 3 months of lockdown where they were not able to attend school. We are so proud of them.
We are encouraging those who did not succeed not to look at it as a defeat but as an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and do even better next year.
After many setbacks (backlog of the university, lockdown and teachers’ strikes) Jacques was finally scheduled to defend his memoire. He succeeded and is now awaiting for the administration to give him his diploma.
2 Goods Distribution
We are so thankful for our faithful donors who have made it possible to give the children a wholesome breakfast on the morning of the exams, as well as good meal on the last day of school (Thank you so much dear Neema, Jean-Emile, SOKIN, Congo Foods, Mahesh and Marsavco for your generosity and concern). That cheered their hearts and helped those who will have to repeat their school year to forget the sad repercussions of the lockdown.
Neema also collected and donated clothes, shoes and school bags for the new school year and made many happy and thankful hearts as it would have been very difficult for the parents to properly equip their kids with the economic repercussions of the covid19.
3 Health Care and Maternity
Florence took advantage of the Post-Natal Care gathering of the mommies and babies to distribute the goods that dear Neema had collected for them: baby clothes, snacks and more.
We purchased an alarm system and automatic locking for the ambulance as well as a siren, to avoid being stuck in the never-ending Kinshasa traffic when needed for emergencies.
4 Agriculture
5 Youth Ministry
Cedric has taken under his wings a couple of exceptionally talented youth and hopes to find sponsorship to organize an art exhibit for them.
Aristote continues to minister to the children in his neighborhood using the character and faith-building classes and activities of the STEPS Program. Parents are now flocking to bring their kids for him to teach them about Jesus and he’s having to organize several sessions. Thankfully, Tresor is now helping him but he’s asking for prayer for the Lord’s anointing for this ministry, as well as supply of all the help he needs both with extra hands and financially as he would like to feed the kids who usually come on an empty stomach.
“By education, I mean an all-round drawing of the best in child and man in body, mind and spirit.”– Mahatma Gandhi
“Learning is an ornament in prosperity, a refuge in adversity, and a provision in old age.” ― Aristotle
“Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace.” ― Confucius
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
