Great scholastics results and more! — July 2019
Dear friends,
We hope you are able to enjoy some restful holidays, like our children in Kikimi. Here are some pics of their graduation day and some other inspiring happenings.
1 Graduation Day and Final Exam Results
The parents were so proud to watch their children perform songs, skits and poems on the graduation day. They did very well and 94.6% of them will enter the next grade in September in primary school and 85% in secondary school.
Lo and behold, all of our 6th grade students passed their final state exam, and guess who the laureate was this year for the whole district? One of our girls! We are so proud of her and thank WeLiftUp for making it possible for all of our girls to take their final exam.
2 School Excursion
This year, our 5th graders had a very special excursion: Kinshasa International Airport. The kids were thrilled to learn all about the control tower, landing and take off, all the different airlines who come to their country, and most of all to get on board a real airplane, visit the cockpit and dream of one day being passengers and travelling the world.
3 Unexpected Partnership with US AID
US AID unexpectedly contacted Theo with a partnership proposal, stating that our school had been selected as one of the best schools in the district of N’Sele. He has been invited to take part in a 10-day training with other school principals, which will be followed by a training session for all the teachers. This partnership includes mentoring the teachers’ continuous training regarding new teaching guidelines related to the international standard. In addition to teacher supervision, USAID will provide the necessary books for students and teachers.

4 Maternity and Health Care
More beautiful babies born this month to thankful mothers for the excellent pre and postnatal care Florence is providing.
Prayers are appreciated against chikungunya which has been labeled around Kinshasa as an epidemic. 30 people from Kikimi have come to our center to be treated and are doing better. Please also pray against ebola (now in the East) and that it does not spread to the rest of the country.
5 Maintenance
Time to replace two of the tires on the ambulance.
6 Construction
The new government has launched a major project of building overpass in several strategic points in Kinshasa, in order to alleviate the traffic problem. However, this project is negatively affecting us, as the one and only road leading to Kikimi is now blocked, even though the work has not yet started. We need divine intervention to find a solution to transport all the materials we still need to finish the staff housing, namely roofing materials as well as all the metal doors and windows. We managed to transport some of the lighter materials (like the wooden doors) by “pousse-pousse” (pushcart), but the rest of the materials can only be transported by truck. Please pray we can find a workable solution.
7 Youth Ministry
On the last day of fellowship, we were joined by Joseph, one of our old-time brothers in the faith met back in 2008, who had left Kinshasa to start a development project in Bas Congo for several years. He has now returned to the capital with his five beautiful children and also plans to continue developing his project in Bas Congo. He still drives the old jeep used by Aktive Direkt Hilfe 10 years ago.
8 News from Fabricius
You may remember Fabricius, who benefitted from our micro-enterprise grant a couple years ago. He took a sabbatical from university this year, in order to focus on his agricultural project, which had suffered a great loss last year after a severe flood. He worked hard at consolidating it and replanting, and his project is now blossoming. He has even added pisciculture to market gardening culture. He would also like to expand further by purchasing another field. Please pray for the Lord’s supply for that. We are very proud of Fabricius who is a good sample of a hard and faithful worker and really loves Jesus.
9 Thank You
Thank you so much for all your help, support in prayer, contributions and encouragement. You make all the difference and we feel honored to work side by side with you to bring hope to this part of the world.
Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart;
Only one life, twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Oh let my love with fervor burn,
And from the world now let me turn;
Living for Thee, and Thee alone,
Bringing Thee pleasure on Thy throne;
Only one life, “twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
