Happy New Year! — January 2020
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
Courage to change the things I can
And wisdom to know the difference.
1 Distribution of goods and Christmas celebration
Hot meals were served to the children. Clothing and other items were distributed, including umbrellas and raincoats for the teachers which were greatly appreciated in this very rainy season.
2 Maintenance
Painting of the school buildings and medical center.
3 Construction of Staff Housing
We were hoping to complete the construction of the staff housing before the end of December, but the continuous heavy rains have delayed the completion of the work, which will therefore need to be done in the beginning of the new year.
4 Youth Ministry
Recently Olivier held a Bible study on the theme of spiritual indolence. He says: “We all have ups and downs, but the fact that God is our King who has conquered sin and death makes our lives so much easier.”
A candle-light ceremony was held on the first Sunday of January for all the Bible students and teachers, to dedicate this new year to the Lord, thank Him for the past accomplishments and present prayer requests for 2020.
Olivier reports:
We wish you a happy new year 2020
The Christmas and New Year celebration this year revolved around the theme: “Opportunities at Christmas”. The interest in choosing this theme was to reflect on the best way to celebrate Christmas, to make it much more fruitful, and to examine the different opportunities this time of year offers us for spreading the gospel.
Our discussion was based on two questions: “What does Christmas mean to us; and How else can we celebrate it?” The text that we read together provided us with the elements of an answer.
Christmas is not only about giving gifts, enjoying a good meal with your family or decorating a tree, which is not bad at all, but Christmas is also and above all about remembering the wonderful gift that Jesus gave us by coming to live among us and dying for us.
Christmas is also an opportunity to put our faith into action, to witness the word of love around us, to ask the Lord to place on our path people who are thirsty to know Him. We have learned that the distribution of tracts is still an excellent way to share the gospel message during this Christmas season and in other evangelistic activities.
Finally, before we parted, we shared refreshments as a Family as usual.
5 Thank You
We thank God for each of you and pray He will keep you close to Him throughout this new year, keep you in good health and continue to make you a blessing to many. We look forward to another year of working together to make this part of the world a little better place.
Over all the unopened year, God casts His light. There can be no experience through the year for which there will not be strength. God never gives a duty, but He gives also the needed strength to do it. He never lays on us a burden, but He will sustain us under it. He never sends a sorrow, but He sends the comfort to meet it. He never calls to any service, but He provides for its performance. We need only to be sure that we wait upon God, and then all the strength we shall need will be given, as we go on, day by day.
