Last Day of School — September 2021
1 Education
This year, because of COVID, the last day of school took place on September 5th. All the parents were invited to watch the children perform skits, sing songs, and recite poems. The best students of each grade were honored as results were proclaimed. It was a happy celebration, which highlighted how determined the kids are to keep on studying despite the many difficulties they faced this year with the lockdown.
We also received the good results of the 6th graders who had taken their final primary school exam, to which they all succeeded and will therefore be able to start middle school next month. Congratulations to all!
2 Health/Maternity
A few more babies were born this month. All are healthy. The last one was born last night, at 2 o’clock in the morning.
3 Distribution of goods/Services to the Poor
A big thank you to Marsavco for their donation of food and sanitary products, which help us to keep the children in good health and to maintain good sanitation in the clinic. Some of their products are also donated to the mothers who give birth in our maternity.
4 Maintenance
Our partner Theo does faithful maintenance on the ambulance and keeps it in top working condition.
Manzuma, the engineer who drilled our bore well and installed the solar pump, came to check on all the equipment and the quality of the water and will organize the maintenance as needed.
5 Children Program
Fabrice and Aristote continue to organize weekly activities for the children in various parts of Kinshasa.
Cedric also continues to care for the street children he has rescued. Each one has his own story, which he tells us about:
Donat: his father was a soldier who died in the war, and his mother had no means to support him, so he was forced to start begging and ended up in the city as a shégué (a term used for street children).
Michael: his parents are also shégués who abandoned him. They gave birth to him at a very young age. The mother smokes (dope) and is a prostitute; the father spends his nights at the big market and the child was born in the street. Now he is in the orphanage and will receive an education.
Randy: both his parents died and his extended family did not take care of him, so he ended up on the street.
Moussa: is an abandoned child who does not even know his family and has spent years on the streets of Kinshasa.
Christopher: is also a child abandoned by his mother and does not know his father.
Josue: is an abandoned child, fatherless and motherless, he is not in contact with his extended family.
We believe that these children have a future and if we give them affection and a good education, they will be become useful members in society. Please also pray for us. Thank you very much. (end of report from Cedric).
Espoir Congo is not able to take on their support, but the couple who started this little orphanage with Cedric, and had to return to Canada unexpectedly, started their own foundation to raise support for them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjHKwBcTXqQ
