Beginning of the new school year — October 2020
1 Education
After the exams, the official start of the new school year took place on October 12.
USAID, which sponsors our primary school textbooks and ongoing teacher training, rewarded the best students with a radio and a memory card. These devices will enable the students to follow radio lessons as part of the “Reading and Writing for Life” program.
2 Maternity
Here are the latest babies born in our maternity ward.
This young mother had a very difficult delivery (it was her first baby) but thanks to God and Florence’s good care she and her baby are healthy.
We thank Marsavco for its hygiene products that are distributed to the mothers.
News from Doctor Patrick in Congo Central: In extremely precarious conditions, he managed to perform a C-section and deliver triplets, to a mother who had no idea she had been carrying 3 babies! She had no money, and no clothing for the babies, so Patrick managed to gather what he could to help her. All 3 babies and mommy are healthy. A true miracle of life.
3 Building Maintenance
It has now been 10 years since our elementary school was built. It was time to change the gutters, which had been damaged by the torrential rains. That has now been completed, just in time before the start of the rainy season. These new gutters will allow to continue to collect rainwater, which is used in the toilets, showers and for the laundry.
3 Youth Ministry
Congratulations to our young people who are increasingly active, reaching children and youth. Olivier assists Aristotle every Sunday for an eschatology seminar in the Massina neighborhood. And in the mornings, Trésor and Aristotle continue to edify the children of their neighborhood with the activities of the STEPS program.
Fabrice has also just started teaching the STEPS program in the Sunday school of a church in his neighborhood. Other Sunday school monitors also want to use this program in their churches. It’s a ministry that will snowball and has the potential to transform these vulnerable, idle and futureless children into fulfilled citizens motivated to change their part of the world.
4 Good News from Richard
You may remember our brother Richard, who came from Goma to organize an international Christian film festival in Kinshasa, which he even presented on TV. Unfortunately, Covid had forced him to cancel all his projects. Very often, when one door closes, God opens another. That’s exactly what happened. India came up with the idea of organizing an international covid19 tribal film festival, online, and invited Richard to participate. Well, his efforts were rewarded as he ended up winning an award for the best foreign film. Bravo Richard, our prayers are with you, that God will give you the means to reach many people through your film productions with a message of love and hope.
